Ray's Testimony
I came to know Christ at 13 years old. I knew that I was separated from a Holy God because of my sin and heard a preacher say that “if I would allow Christ to be the Lord of my life and make Him boss of my life, that he would take away my sin, come into my life and guide and lead me forever.” He told me “that Christ loved me and wants the best for me”. I made my mind up that day that I believed that, and I put my trust in Christ. By faith I accepted the grace that was extended and I have never been the same since.
Fast forward a few years and you would find a really “good kid” trying my best to live in a way that pleased my Heavenly Father. I was married at 20 years old and have been married to my best friend and the sweetest lady I have ever met. But I was living in the constant pressure of trying to please God with my behavior. Walking a line of favor that I thought was determined by my behavior. But at about 28 years of age I began to experience a scripture that I have since come to hold very dear to my heart. Titus 2:11-12 explains that our every motivation must be the Grace of our Lord, for “it” teaches us how to live. When I realized how much God loved me and what He did for me I was again transformed by that very Grace. God has been so good to me and my family, giving me 3 terrific children and Becky, my wife, a marriage of over 30 years and a drive to love Him back because He first loved me.
In 1996 I made a trip to New Orleans to the Superdome for my first experience with Promise Keepers. God began a work in me as I experienced worship like I had never seen before. God started me on a journey of teaching, and men's ministry that lasted more than 15 years. God birthed a drive in my heart for evangelism and over a 13 year span starting in 1999, God used me to head up an area wide crusade that saw 8 crusades and over 4000 salvations. God really continued to grow the “evangelist” in me reaching into the city apartment complexes and low income areas of our city. Meanwhile I never felt called to “GO." I felt called to home and was just happy as could be watching God change my city through the ministry that I was a part of.
In 2011 I was invited to a men's bible study at another church in town. God began to break my heart for “the nations” and in the summer of 2011 I made the first trip, of what I had no idea was coming, to Leon Nicaragua. God MESSED ME UP! I have definitely never been the same. In 2013 I was asked to serve on staff of the ministry that I was introduced to. I began to carry teams and God used me to see many lives changed including the North Americans who I was carrying. Thousands were coming to Christ and God was just blowing my mind.
In the fall of 2014 our ministry was struck with hard times. Our director was stricken with cancer and we saw Romans 8:28 come to life. As bad as cancer is and was, God grew me to the place that I am at now. My full desire is to see God glorified in all aspects of my life. Watching God open Hearts to receive His Spirit through the hearing of the Gospel, and seeing the sharer of the gospel blown away by the power of the Gospel is what I live for. God is still doing great and mighty things in me and I am always watching for the next step.
